BMW’s summer opportunities involve AIM Trips and Vision Trips. An AIM Trip (Assisting in Missions) is what most people envision when they think of short-term missions – you’re going overseas for a few weeks to help out and work alongside a missionary that you know. A Vision Trip typically lasts 7-12 days and is for those seriously contemplating long-term service on a specific field. For either kind of trip, you need to be at least 20 years of age and have the backing of your home church’s leaders.
Assisting in Ministry trips are for you if you’re not necessarily considering long-term cross-cultural ministry, but want to get exposure to a foreign setting, learn firsthand what gospel ministry looks like in other cultures, and be of practical assistance to a missionary family or team.
You may want to help with a building project, provide childcare or schooling for children, or deliver medical care to the community as a bridge for the gospel. The idea is that you or your group will bring a definite set of skills to assist the BMW team with some aspect of ministry. On our English-speaking fields, you can help with evangelism and discipleship as well.
VIA trips are for you if you are seriously looking to get involved with long-term cross-cultural ministry, even if you are not yet sure where God wants you.
VIA trips explore, in progressively longer and more immersive experiences, whether God is directing your steps to join a BMW team as either a vocational missionary or as a tentmaker complementing a church-planting team. Here are the three kinds of trips:
Any one of the trips may be taken, or all of them; the longer the length, the more serious and involved the learning.
Short-term trips with BMW are normally taken after you have communicated directly with a BMW missionary or one of our GO Team members about the possibility. Email our GO-Team about the possibilities.
We’d love to talk with you about a possible summer AIM or VIA trip! Email our Global Opportunities Team or call us at 770.339.3500. If you have already spoken with the GO Team or a BMW missionary about an AIM or VIA trip, just fill in the fields below and click “Send.” Our Global Opportunities Team will be in touch.
* As popular as short-term trips have become to teenage youth groups in American churches, BMW does not coordinate such trips. We are more interested in enabling American churches to send out teams of adults, or individuals who are at least 20 years of age and who are serious about their future in cross-cultural ministry.
