When setting out on a voyage, a ship’s crew should know Why it is sailing out to sea, Where and When it is going, How it will get there, and What it needs to do to complete its voyage. Churches should also sail with purpose and direction. Churches are often adrift in the sea of good intentions, driven by their past, or by their programs – not by a clearly defined purpose.

This workshop enables church leaders to develop biblically dynamic core values and purpose statements. There is also an opportunity to develop a vision statement, evaluate your current methods, and design a strategy for maximum ministry effectiveness.


Fostering the Harvest is a practical training workshop for personal evangelism. Many training programs are aimed at reaching a “Christian culture,” but we no longer have that in America. Now we must think more like missionaries. This workshop will help people to reach those who do not seem to be interested in the gospel.

Fostering the Harvest is designed for a Sunday school class or a small group Bible study. Nine video sessions (about 25-40 minutes in length) present the material in stimulating lecture format accompanied by onscreen notes. Afterwards your session facilitator can guide the group in discussing the principles of the lesson and providing practical application and follow through for the group using the questions in the student workbook.

The purpose of this workshop is to convince church leaders to adopt church-based leadership development as a core value. God has chosen local churches as the focal point of ministry today. But our churches have become hampered by cultural baggage and program-orientation and have, thus, lost their effectiveness in equipping future leaders.

The primary tasks of church leaders are to equip saints and mentor emerging leaders. Mentoring (advanced discipleship) involves practical learning to develop ministry skills, private learning to develop godly character, and public learning to develop biblical and theological knowledge.


If church leaders adopt church-based leadership development as a core value, where should they begin? How simple or complex should the new endeavor be?

This workbook is a compilation of resource materials to give church leaders some idea of the “nuts and bolts” of starting a leadership development forum. At your request, we can consult with you as you work through the materials. We help you design a schedule for developing the heart, hands and heads of your emerging leaders and suggest learning outcomes in each stage of discipleship. We also look at the possibility of getting outside help from churches, schools and mission organizations to set up internships and provide a theological education.


Teams that do restructuring say that 5% of organizational change is evaluating what is not working well and deciding what things need to be deleted or modified to achieve greater effectiveness, 15% is researching and developing detailed plans to make the needed changes, and 80% is working through the change process with the people involved. Many church leaders forget the last 80%. The methods, traditions, and values of a congregation, their comfort with the familiar, their expectations of sameness, and fear of unknown methods and doctrinal error all create force and momentum to maintain the status quo, and avoid the changes that are badly needed in your church. What do you do?

This workshop underscores that your church is a living thing and is already changing. If leaders don’t promote pro-active change to help the church better achieve its biblical purposes, then the church will slowly move toward institutional deadness where the past and programs are driving the church rather than principles or purpose. The workshop also highlights the difference between biblical things in a church that don’t change, and cultural things that do. It also examines the change process using the examples of Moses bringing Israel out of Egypt and Paul bringing the gospel to the Gentiles.


Every church can send their own missionaries. Most churches support missionaries from other churches, but they can also identify, train and mobilize people from their own congregation. “Senders” will help your local church produce missionaries from within. The accompanying study guide will help the leadership team of your church to create a plan to launch people from your congregation to the mission field.
