Coronavirus Letter from Our Director
Dear Friends of Biblical Ministries Worldwide,
Thank you for your partnership in taking the message of the gospel around the world. It is our deepest desire to assist and enable you to send out missionaries. We know your passion is to see the Great Commission carried out among people you have never met, and yet love. It is our privilege to help you.
In recent days, a challenge arose for your Great Commission partners all over the world: COVID-19. In response to COVID-19, BMW’s Emergency Management Team established a Coronavirus Crisis Management Team (CMT). From the beginning, their purpose has been to inform, assist, and encourage missionaries to make wise and realistic decisions regarding their safety. The CMT has been monitoring this event daily through resources such as our Department of State, the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), global governmental and public health/safety agencies, peer organization groups, and private medical data gathering organizations.
Since the formation of this team in January, the international situation has changed dramatically. After careful consideration and interaction with our missionaries, their sending churches, family members, and BMW’s executive leadership, we issued a strong recommendation for evacuation from the country of origin. Today, 33 of the countries where BMW missionaries serve are now reporting cases of COVID-19.
We want you to know that the CMT along with BMW’s executive leadership will continue to work with all of our missionaries and their sending churches to assess together the best measures for their safety and ministry. We remain committed to serving you well by caring for your missionaries, providing access to relevant information, and creating tools to help in the process.
Amid all the uncertainty, we rest in the hands of an omnipotent, sovereign God. While His plans for this virus are inscrutable, we are well aware He uses times like these to prepare a way for the gospel. John Newton wrote, “Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fears relieved.” The missionaries, with whom you partner and we serve, know the answer to fear is found in the Savior. Please pray with us for wisdom, the eradication of COVID-19, the safety of your partner missionaries, and for God’s glory and grace to be seen and demonstrated among the nations as they encounter the impact of this virus and the testimony of unshakeable faith by His church. I am confident the gospel will continue to move forward in these times. Our God can do exceedingly above all that we ask or think.
Another tangible way you can assist with this need is to consider donating to our Contingency Reserve Fund (Project #5970). BMW has set aside and used a portion of these contingency funds to be able to respond immediately to our missionaries in high-risk situations. However, those funds will need to be replenished. We greatly appreciate your contributions and care for those serving around the world.
In the meantime, we will remain vigilant to care for them well on your behalf.
Partnering together with you,
BMW General Director
