From Village School Girl to Bible Translator: Unlikely Grace
Her eyes sparkle as she recounts the improbable events that led her to Christ. Brought up in a mountain village where going to church is just another way to keep evil spirits at bay, Grace knew nothing of the true Jesus, the One who calls people to come drink freely of the water of life. All she knew was confusion and darkness. Providentially, a World Vision scholarship enabled her to leave home to attend school in town. There she was invited to church to celebrate a cousin’s birthday. For the very first time she learned of God’s grace in Jesus, and her heart eagerly responded. From that moment she was filled with the desire to share that transforming message of hope with others. Today Grace is a key player on the team that is laboring together to translate God’s Word into the mother tongue of her people. “Do you think it will make much difference to your village to have the Bible in their mother tongue?” I ask her. “Oh yes!” she replies with conviction. “When I hear God’s Word in my own language, I hear it not just up here” (pointing to her head) “but also in here.” Her hands move to rest on her heart as she speaks.
Across the globe, God is drawing many others like Grace to Himself, appointing them to go and bear fruit. They need encouraging, equipping, and empowering. Will you go and find them? Contact our Global Team at GO-Team@biblicalministries.org for more information.
