ARE
YOU TRACKING?!
In
our current world of the GPS machine, it is easy to assume that
the best way to a destination is the fastest and the most direct
way. The GPS tracking device sorts through the innumerable ways
to get to your destination and decides on the best one. People would
think that you were a fool if you turned on your GPS and then went
your own way -- and the nice voice in your tracker would develop
a nervous breakdown trying to get you to "please turn around
here!"
God doesn't
use GPS devices. He isn't one, either. We don't decide our destination,
and then program God to get us there the best way. We don't even
get to decide our destination. When God programs His destination
(His will for our life-work) into a willing heart, He then also
undertakes leaving sign-posts along the way to help us get there.
His decision to take us down a side road instead of the highway
is based on His Wisdom. It could be a completely round-a-bout way
in our view, but to God it is the best way to take us to where He
wants us to be. It is hard work to be directed by God in this manner.
Sometimes the road is well-worn, but the signposts are few and far
between. Sometimes the speed limit slows down to practically a crawl.
Sometimes the road is being blazed as we go, and many stops are
necessary to clear the debris in the way. Our task as Christians
is to erase our expectations of where we are going and how we are
going to get there.
God
has reprogrammed our expectation of ministry in Poland. Originally,
BMW hoped to be able to start a church-planting work in Poland and
reach out to Polish people "from the inside, out." Because
of the situation (please see "Home Is Wherever You Find
Your Bread" link above), it has now become likely that
God intends us to start "from the outside, in." Porous
borders in Europe (because of the European Union) are spreading
people around to such a degree that Europe is becoming the melting
pot of the 21st century! On a recent BBC radio report, 1.5 million
Poles have left Poland to find work in the rest of the European
Union. That estimate does not include family members that move with
the workers. In Peterborough, England, it was reported that over
6500 Polish workers make a living there, with an estimated 16,000
total Polish population! (BBC World News, "One Planet,"
July 26, 2007)
BMW is investigating
the possibility of becoming a ministry to Polish immigrants. These
are people close to our heart. We would like to offer them more
missionaries, who could help them through not only the difficulties
of integration into a new country, but also through the difficulties
they face in their relationship with God. This may seem to be a
round-the-bout way to working in Poland, but God's directions are
always reliable.
Please
work your way through some of the links on this page. Please also
keep in mind that we are trying to be good followers of God -- we
want Him to be the one telling us where to go. This possible shift
in focus for the beginning of our Polish ministry is a reflection
of that desire.
