In 1996
Sacramento Bible Church for the Deaf (SBCD) became an independent
Deaf church with Deaf leadership. They became Penny Harden's
sending church. She moved to Vallejo in early 1999 and witnessed
to Deaf people there. In 2000 the Deaf Associate Pastor of
SBCD started coming once a month to preach. In 2003 he said
that he would leave the Vallejo ministry within the next year
to be full-time at SBCD.
A few
months later, the Lord led Brad Ketterling, Deaf missionary
with BMW in Los Angeles, to travel once a month to Vallejo
to preach. A few months later the Lord led him to move to
Vallejo and be full-time in this ministry. He made the move
at the end of 2004.
People
are being saved and growing as a result of the ministry of
Vallejo Bible Church for the Deaf. There is now (in
early 2006) a core group of about 15 believers. Two of the
Deaf men are developing in preaching/teaching abilities and
take turns sharing a devotional at the weekly Sunday service.
Others are leading in other parts of the services such as
special music, leading in prayer, the Lord's table, etc.
