Passion for the gospel and the glory of Jesus Christ is the driving force behind all lasting missionary work. You may have this as well as a drive to work cross-culturally and compassion to help the hurting … but you just don’t know where to start.
That’s why we started VIA.
AT A GLANCE
VIA is an acronym that stands for Vision, Intern, and Apprentice, three different lengths of short-term missions you can take that God can use to show you His path for you. VIA is designed to enable you to explore in progressive experiential and relational steps whether God could use your passion, skills, giftedness, and education for either career missionary service or for tentmaking endeavors that complement a mission team.
Vision Trip (7-10 days)
Internship (2-6 months)
Apprenticeship (9-12 months)
Each trip exposes you to the culture, local religions, worldviews, the climate, local foods, real living conditions, typical transportation, previous gospel work, and the spiritual needs in the culture. You’ll also have opportunities for ministry involvement, to whatever extent possible.
No formal Bible college or seminary degree is required to take a Vision Trip. We believe that the local church can be a great training ground for developing motivated individuals who are ready to take on this opportunity to make a difference in the world. You also don’t have to take a Vision Trip before an Internship.
COMPARING THE THREE TRIPS
|Program||The Vision Trip is perfect for those who are beginning to explore if missions would be a great fit for them. This program allows you to get a glimpse into the life of a missionary out in the field.||The Internship is designed for those who believe they sense a call from God to take part in missions, and want to take more time to explore a culture and language further||The Apprenticeship was created for those who feel the Lord calling them to serve Him with a specific team in a specific culture, but desire further hands-on training.|
|Length||7 – 10 Days||2 – 3 Months||9 – 12 Months|
|Experience||This trip exposes you in a limited way to missionary life, the culture and climate, and ongoing ministries.||You will be provided with a mentor, meaningful language learning with a national tutor, and training in ministry.||You are given a mentor to guide you spiritually, emotionally, and mentally through this more intensive and structured experience.|

|“South Africa was a life-changer for me, so I went back. Playing with orphans, teaching the youth some worship songs, sharing the gospel in a public school, staying with godly followers of Jesus, and even sitting in on the meeting of a Chinese church stretched us and forced us to rely on Christ. But there is so much more to do.” Blayne Abts, WI|
|“Every day in Indonesia bore lessons in humility, patience, faith, dying to self and living for Christ. During our seven months overseas the Lord allowed my husband and I to see the need for the gospel firsthand, to establish lasting friendships, and to see our niche in ministry more clearly.” Sarah Young, MI|
